Mother’s day is a great opportunity for families to spend time together.

It was the first time in 20 years that the whole family has been together for Mother’s Day.

Her brother, Bob Owen is here from Switzerland and her niece Elizabeth Sandlund from East Liverpool will be leaving on a missions trip to Africa for  6 weeks, so it may be some time before they will be able to celebrate Mother’s Day together.

This is how one couple came to see the “Doo Wops and Beauty Shops Production”.

Doo-Wops and Beauty Shops is our current show and is now one of my favorites.

It is filled with fifties music and it is hilarious!!
All of the shows but one are now sold out. If you would care to dress like the fifties, what fun would that be.  Some of our patrons have done just that and we’ve enjoyed seeing that look again.

So, Guys, slick back your hair, roll up those white t-shirts and jeans and you have the look going.   The ladies as  don’t have to dress in a poodle skirt, there were other looks too, such as the dressy look or capris, shirts and a neck scarf.

Mother’s Day Sunday Brunch,

Sunday May 13th.

In attendance this year will be Opal Moore who is 100 years old .

She was born near Grafton WV, and is closer to being 101, than 100, as her birthday is in September.

Opal Moore

• One daughter Virginia (deceased).
• Virginia had 5 children – Michael, Marsha, Kathy, Christine, Scott.  The 4 children still living all reside in the Alliance/Canton/Akron area.
•  7 great-grandchildren – Aaron, Emily, Ashley, Nick, Travis, Jeremy, Patrick
•  7 gr-great grandchildren
• Loves breads but in moderation “I have to watch my weight”.  Also fond of all kinds of beans.
• Town where born no longer exists but grew up in the Tunnelton WV area
• Living in her own apartment at Stone Crossing Care Center in Canton.  Also lived independently for several years at the Canton Regency.

We are honored that her family from Akron chose us as the place to celebrate this Mother’s Day.

Here is a little Mother’s day Trivia:

The United States celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. 

The current mother’s day was created by Anna Jarvis in Grafton WV in 1908 and Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914. ( Our Special Mother’s day guest Opal,  from the same area, has been here long enough to have celebrated all of those Mother’s Days. )

This 34 West Dinner Theater Production is a great opportunity to come  dressed in the ”Fifties Style”… just for fun!

This is Mr. Gary and Pastor Kathy Whoric, they came dressed for the occasion. Kathy made her poodle skirt and painted her shoes to look like saddle shoes. These Lucky Dinner Theater folks won a gift certificate for two tickets to an upcoming show.  They have been here about 4 times so they’re loyal patrons of the arts at Das Dutch Village Inn.

We traditionally associate fancifully decorated hats with the Kentucky Derby, and they are often just as fun as the race itself.

Here is a bit of “Derby” hat trivia:

• The “Derby” Date this year is May 5th, 2012.
• The first running of the Derby was in 1875.
• Horses must be three-year-old Thoroughbreds to run in the race.
• In 1976, John Wayne was the Grand Marshal of the Pegasus Parade, one of the many events held before the actual race.  His all-American persona made him the natural choice for America’s bicentennial year.

 If you don’t plan on attending the Derby this year, there are plenty of other things you could do with your decorated hat:

• Use it as a door decoration.
• Host an at home “Derby” event with friends and wear decorated hats.

If you already own a hat, bring it in to The Tulip  and we can redecorate it for you.

This Live Theater is located at the Dutch Village Inn Columbiana, Ohio

To help celebrate the opening of “Doo-Wops and Beauty Shops,” which is set in the 1950′s era.

The Bella Rose Salon will offer celebrity hairstyles from that decade,

Her stylist is Gloria Socciarelli, owner of the new Bella Rose Salon

at Das Dutch Village Shops in Columbiana.

In conjunction with the premiere of the show March 23rd,a “Pincurls and Ponytails” contest will also be a highlight at the evening performance of the show.

Audience members will select the most popular 1950s hairstyle sported by those in attendance.

I am switching to a gluten free eating style. I just feel better when I eat this way.

What a delight, to find everything I needed to make the recipe, for a master gluten free baking mix, right here at the Dutch Cupboard. I trust the fresh wholesome ingredients I find when shopping here.

I decided to make my own baking mix after learning of the very high sodium content in the packaged mix I had bought at the health food store.

I want know what the ingredients are, in my food.

I found recipes and a master baking mix on a blog site called The Ginger Lemon Girl I tried rich cream cheese brownies pictured above, my friends and I loved them. The recipe> Rich chocolate Brownies. <
